MEDIA RELEASE: SMME EXPO PRESENTED BY AWARD-WINNING TEAM

Mossel Bay Municipality was ranked third in the province at the prestigious Western Cape Government Provincial Service Excellence Awards. The Local Economic Development Office was awarded bronze in the category “Best Municipal Project” alongside, City of Cape Town (gold) and Drakenstein (silver). The award recognises the municipality’s efforts to grow the local economy and assistance to small businesses through their business parks (beehives), the Goods Shed and business incubator project.

 

Hosted in Stellenbosch this year on Friday, 19 April the Service Excellence Awards is held by the Western Cape Government to recognise and reward excellence in the public sector, to promote a citizen-centric culture, and to entrench professionalism. The awards also promote the sharing of best practices, learning, and gauging citizens’ satisfaction with government performance.

 

This year was the 9th time the awards event was held.


This award-winning team presented the annual SMME Expo on Friday, 17 May at the D'Almeida Civic Hall. During the expo all the government departments who assist small businesses are brought together to exhibit their services and to answer questions during interactive sessions. Stakeholders who formed part of the expo this year included Small enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) the Department of Trade Industry and Competition, the Office of the Tax Ombud, South African Revenue Services (SARS), the Consumer Protector, Transnet National Port Authority, Standard Bank, the Industrial Development Corporation and Kamva Capital.
