Funds received from the Western Cape Provincial
Government in terms of the Emergency Municipal Loadshedding Relief Grant, have been applied to procure standby generators for critical water pumpstations in the
greater Mossel Bay area.
The approved scope of work for this project includes
the purchase and installation of back-up generators for water and wastewater
infrastructure as an immediate response to prolonged loadshedding. The project
has a its purpose mitigating the impact of loadshedding on the provision of
basic services and potential health risks.
The procured or installed assets include the following

Concrete plinths have been completed
for the 3 sites where generators will be installed.
The tender for the supply of standby generators was
awarded to Messrs MDL Engineering Company of George on 3 May 2023. Orders for
the 650kVA and 500kVA units were placed on 8 and 29 May. The units were
delivered to Mossel Bay on 21 August 2023. Defects were however noticed which
had to be repaired at the manufacturer’s facility. The units were therefore
removed for repairs on 5 October 2023. The repairs have been completed and the
units were returned to Mossel Bay on 11 March 2024.
The tender for the construction of the concrete
plinths was awarded to Messrs. 3rd Generation Trading. Plinths
were completed on 31 January 2024.
The 150kVA generator at Krieketveld Pumpstation in
Great Brak River has been installed on site. The two larger units require low voltage
cables to connect, which has been ordered as it is not a municipal stock item.
Delivery is awaited.
