MEDIA RELEASE: MOSSEL BAY ARTS MONTH 2025 - A celebration of creative flair

Mossel Bay is set to come alive with creativity and culture as Mossel Bay Arts Month officially kicks off tomorrow, 27 Augus running through to 27 September 2025. This annual celebration, coordinated by the Mossel Bay Municipality in partnership with the local arts community, invites residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in a vibrant showcase of visual arts, music, drama, film and arts and crafts.  

During Arts Month, the Mossel Bay Municipality, similarly to the Mossel Bay Sports and Recreation Festival, offers its facilities free of charge for arts events. The municipality underwrites these festivals to support the local economy and boost moral regeneration - both focus points in the GROW strategy.

Programme highlights include: 

  1. Arts and crafts in Dana Bay sets the tone: The industrious crafters inDana Bay are hosting workshops in several mediums on 27 August, 3, 10, 17 and 24 September. Learn to work with wood, paper art, make macrame or your stress relief items, or enjoy sand art creations on Heritage Day – its all happening at the Dana Bay Community Hall. Event start from 11:00 to 16:00. A mini art and craft market will be hosted on all the days with items, eat and drinks on sale. Participation is R50 (non-members) and R30 (members).   2. Multi-instrumentalist: Multi-instrumentalist Jovann Rocher, hosts 3 performances this Arts Month. Join us on Saturday, 30 August for an unforgettable Saturday evening with the sounds of Jovann Rocher's 6 instruments at the Monroe Theatre. Cost R120, doors open 15:30. Show 16:00-18:00.   3. Carpe Musicam Pops Band: Live, vibrant music performed as entertainment for the whole family! This first performance of the CARPE MUSICAM! POPS BAND in Mossel Bay starts at 15h30 on Sunday 31 August 2025 in the MOSSEL BAY TOWN HALL. Specially priced Arts Month tickets: Adults R80 and Scholars R20.   4. Art Movie Week at the Monroe Theatre: Celebrating their 18th birthday, the Monroe Theatre is hosting an Art Movie Week from 1-5 September 2025 Art Movie Week (1 September - Indochine; 2 September - Antonia’s Line; 3 September – Babette’s Feast; 4 September – Cinema Paradiso; 5 September – Like Water for Chocolate).   5. Afrikaans 100: Celebrating the 100th birthday of Afrikaans Goldblatt Music Productions presents an ode to Afrikaans in song and word, featuring Phyllis Goldblatt; Voldi George (tenor and piano); Francois le Roux (baritone and narrator); Esme du Toit (accompanist – piano); and Cornelle Carstens-Johnston (narrator). Enjoy the richness of Afrikaans in the unique setting of one of Marsh Street’s sandstone landmarks, built in 1902 – 7 Marsh Street.   6. Mossel Bay’s Got Talent 2025 semi-final: Following a host of auditions held since the start of July, inviting youth from all over the greater Mossel Bay to showcase their talent, the Bravo Lounge will play host to the 2025 semi-finals.   7. Ceramic Art at the Museum: Vicky Keet hosts a magnificent exhibition of ceramic art at the Dias Museum from 11-17 September. Entry fees to the museum may apply, but viewing the exhibition is free.
  8. Artspace hosts Trio Mosaic: On 18 September at 19:00 Han Jonkers (guitar), Liesl Stolz (flute) and Nicolas Corti (viola) will thrill the audience during their concert in the Klipkerk, Church Street.   9. Heritage Theatre rocks the town hall: Tickets to the performances of Heritage Theatre ZA are selling like hot cakes – so make sure that you join the excitement on 22 and 23 September.   10.  Mossel Bay’s Got Talent 2025 grand finale: In celebration of Heritage Day, don’t miss the final showdown in this year’s Mossel Bay’s Got Talent on 24 September hosted at the Mossel Bay Town Hall.
