There are 13 libraries, in the Mossel Bay municipal area.
They are managed on an agency basis for the Provincial Government of the
Western Cape and play a major role in the education of the community. The libraries
also provide a free internet service to the public. The footprint for the
internet was enlarged by the implementation of a Wi-Fi service at some of the
libraries.
Choose the membership that suits how you use the library.
Borrow books and other library materials, and use library computers. One card can be used at any Mossel Bay Municipality library.
An ID is the only document required to apply. ICT membership does not allow you to borrow books or other library materials — apply for standard membership if you wish to borrow.
Staff check supporting documents against the membership form. The library does not make or keep copies of ID, birth certificates or proof of residence presented for verification.
This practice helps protect personal information under POPIA.

Mossel Bay Municipality libraries provide free access to computers and the internet, ensuring that all community members can connect to information, educational resources, online services, and digital opportunities. Whether you need to conduct research, complete school or university assignments, update your CV, search for employment opportunities, access government services, or stay connected with family and friends, our libraries offer a welcoming space to do so — helping to promote digital inclusion for all.
Our libraries offer comfortable study spaces designed to support learning and academic success. Learners, students, researchers, and members of the public are welcome to make use of these quiet environments for reading, studying, completing assignments, and preparing for examinations — spaces where individuals can focus, learn, and access the resources they need to achieve their educational goals.
Guided by our vision, Mossel Bay libraries are more than places to borrow books. They are community hubs that bring people together through access to knowledge, technology, and lifelong learning opportunities. By offering free internet services and dedicated study areas, our libraries help bridge the digital divide and create an inclusive environment where everyone can learn, grow, and succeed.
Library members can access Libby, a free digital library app that provides access to e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and other digital resources. With your library membership, you can borrow and enjoy thousands of titles on your smartphone, tablet, or computer, anytime and anywhere.
Mossel Bay Library participates in the UNISA Library Partnership Programme, supporting distance-learning students in the area. Through this service, UNISA students can collect and return library materials, make use of study facilities, complete assignments, conduct research, and access library computers for academic purposes.
Students can also use library computers to access the UNISA student portal, submit assignments, and write online examinations in a quiet and supportive study environment.
Mossel Bay Municipality Libraries are committed to ensuring that library services are accessible to everyone. Through our partnership with the South African Library for the Blind (SALB), visually impaired and print-disabled users can access specialised reading materials and assistive resources.
Our goal is to ensure that all members of the community have the opportunity to Read. Learn. Connect. regardless of their individual needs.
