The Mossel Bay Sports Festival will also include a soccer festival for boys at the Extension 23 soccer field from Friday, 28 September 2012 to Sunday, 30 September 2012.
Twelve teams from as far afield as Ceres, Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn and Knysna will participate in the tournament, which promises to provide some entertaining soccer. The final will be played at 15:30 on the Sunday afternoon.
Although the actual competition is for boys under 16, it is expected that two special matches, one between a Mossel Bay Football Association XI and a PetroSA XI for over 35’s and another between a younger MOBFA XI and a PetroSA XI, will be big draw cards.
The tournament forms part of the first Mossel Bay sports festival that will see 26 events, organised by the various sports codes and bodies in Mossel Bay, taking place from Friday, 28 September 2012 to Sunday, 7 October 2012.
Although the main festival will take place from 28 September to 30 September the programme also includes a martial arts tournament on Friday, 6 October and a biathle and a triathlon on Saturday, 7 October 2012.
Some of the big draw cards will be the PetroSA marathon as well as 21 km and 10 km races on Saturday, 29 September 2012, the Western Cape Aerobatics Championships at the Mossel Bay airfield on 28 September and 29 September, the Eastern Cape dinghy and catamaran sailing championships and the Point High School Cricket Festival that will be held for the 14th consecutive year.
The Sports Festival is expected to attract competitors from all over the Western and Eastern Cape, and even further afield in the case of the PetroSA marathon which attracted more than 800 runners last year, including some from neighbouring countries.
