CAR AND DRIVER'S LICENCES WILL NOT EXPIRE DURING SOUTH AFRICA'S NATIONAL LOCKDOWN
According to the Government Gazette of 30 March 2020, the Minister of Transport has announced that the following licences and permits will be deemed to be valid and shall be extended for a further grace period of 30 days from the date of expiry of a lockdown period, unless determined otherwise by the Minister.
The extension is valid for a whole range of licences and permits, including:
• driving licences
• learner’s licences
• motor vehicle license disks
• temporary permits
• professional driving permits
• roadworthy certificates
This means that once the lockdown period is over, the public will have 30 days in which to renew their expired licences or permits and during which time their licences will remain valid.
