BUFFALO RALLLY BACK FOR THREE YEARS

The Mossel Town Council gave permission for the Buffalo Rally to be held in Mossel Bay for the next three years. The decision was taken at the Council meeting on 1 December 2011.

The dates for the next three Buffalo Rallies are 15 March 2012 to 18 March 2012, 21 March 2013 to 24 March 2013 and 20 March 2014 to 23 March 2014.

In terms of the decision the Santos Caravan Park will be made available to the Nomads Motorcycle Club, the organisers of the rally for an amount of R70 000, VAT included, for each of the years. The Club will also contribute an additional amount of R35 000 to the Mayor’s Relief and Charity Fund.

The Council resolution also makes provision for the letting of the chalets at De Bakke to the organisers at a discount of 20 per cent for the duration of the events. The parking area at De Bakke will be closed to the public during the rallies. The Municipality will assist with the marketing of the event through the local press, radio and the municipal newsletter.

Mossel Bay has hosted six Buffalo Rallies since 2005. The event draws up to 5 000 motor cycles and 8 000 visitors from across South Africa as well as from neighbouring countries annually. It makes a much needed contribution to the local economy while charities and organisations such as the NSRI and Round Table also benefit from the holding of the event in Mossel Bay.
