AEROBATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MOSSEL BAY

Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy championship aerobatics at the Mossel Bay airfield during the first Mossel Bay Sports Festival that will be held at the end of September 2012. Up to 30 pilots are expected to participate in the Western Cape regional aerobatic championship at the Mossel Bay airfield from 28 to 30 September 2012.

The championship will take place at the Mossel Bay airfield and is organised by the Sports Aerobatic Club of South Africa in conjunction with the Mossel Bay Aero Club. The participants will practice on the Thursday, while the actual competition will take place on the Thursday and Friday.

Some of the aircraft that will be seen in action are Pitts Specials and Yaks as well as vintage aircraft such as Harvards. Spectators can expect to see spectacular stunts when these aircraft take to the skies.

A festival atmosphere will be created at the airfield and there will be stalls to ensure that there is enough food and refreshments for festivalgoers.

Further good news is that this will not be the last Western Cape regional aerobatic championship to be held in Mossel Bay. The Town Council at its monthly meeting on 31 May 2012 .gave approval for a memorandum of agreement to be entered into with the Mossel Bay Aero Club and the Sports Aerobatics Club of South Africa to host the annual Western Cape Regional aerobatics championship as part of the annual Sports Festival in Mossel Bay.

More information about the aerobatics championship can be obtained from Mr Hans Potgieter of the Mossel Bay Aero Club at 082768175.

The Sports Festival is co-ordinated by the Mossel Bay Municipality as part of its strategy to draw visitors to the town during the quieter months. It is planned to make it an annual event.
